HGTV Deutschland Channels
Kenneth W. Lowe (later radio manager at EW Scripps and then CEO of Scripps Networks Interactive) In 1992, he developed the HGTV concept with modest financial support from EW Scripps management, acquired Cinetel, a small video production company in Knoxville as a manufacturing center. Lowe founded the channel with Susan Packard.
Cinetel was Scripps Productions, but has released more than 30 programs at a time. The organization attracted Ed Spray, a former CBS television manager who implemented a programming system (almost entirely) through independent production facilities in the United States. Vice President of Programming Burton Jablin set the tone and led the production of the first series. About 90 percent of the programs on the channel consisted of original productions at launch; Ten percent are licensed and republished from Canadian channels, PBS, and other sources.

During its development, the canal was originally called the House, Lawn and Garden Canal. Its name was later abbreviated and a logo was developed. The logo was changed in 2010, and this version was released on March 1. The square with “G” is removed, the roof size is increased, and the letters “HGTV” are now placed in “Gotham Black” (from the original combination of “Futura” and “Times New Roman”), the rest of the Gotham fonts are used throughout the network. The network made its debut with staff, but was gradually adopted by other cable operators, now it reaches 94 million households in the United States and has common networks or network interests in Canada, Japan and other countries. In December 2011, the channel began broadcasting all its programs on the primary standard definition channel in the 16: 9 format.  This leads to the appearance of black bars at the top and bottom of the screen on TVs with a 4: 3 aspect ratio; High definition channel displays channel programming in native format.
On March 6, 2018, Discovery Communications completed its merger with Scripps Networks Interactive and gained control of HGTV, Food Network and Travel Channel.
